Tabitha is a self-taught artist from South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula. She is drawn to birds and horses, using her own photography as inspiration for paintings that capture their spirit and stillness. Working mainly in watercolour, she combines delicate brushwork with spatter techniques to create texture and light.
Her art is shaped by memory, landscape and time spent outdoors.
From Scrubby Nook Studio, surrounded by nature, Tabitha’s practice centres on calm, connection and the quiet process of healing through creativity.

In October 2024, my life changed abruptly.
For over five months I was unable to do very much at all, caught in a space of exhaustion, stillness, and uncertainty. What followed was a year of slow passing and deep reflection, learning to let go of the life I once knew while finding meaning in what remained.
I had no choice but to slow down. Not knowing from one day to the next if I would have enough energy to get up, get dressed, or even shower. The simplest tasks became draining, and fatigue and headaches were relentless at their worst.
What carried me through was my creative mind which could not be silenced and the constant support of my loving family.
I had to learn patience, to accept that plans would change repeatedly, and to work *with* my energy rather than against it. This wasn’t giving up it was learning a different kind of strength.
During this time, I rekindled my love of watercolour. Its simplicity and gentleness made it accessible when my energy was limited.
Long Covid hasn’t slowed my creativity in my mind, but it has transformed the way I create. My process is quieter, slower, and more deliberate and I believe this has deepened my work.
I am fortunate to have a large portfolio of bird and horse photography from before I became ill. These images have become a foundation for my current practice.
Birds and horses symbols of freedom, movement, and resilience now take on new meaning. Through them, I reconnect with the physical world I once moved through so freely, and reinterpret it through a slower, more contemplative lens.
While I miss my old life, I also embrace this evolving version of myself and the work it produces. My art today is shaped by endurance, observation, and hope. Proof that creativity adapts, survives, and continues to grow.
Nature and creativity remain central to my healing.
